Zachary James Schlotman

Zachary James Schlotman passed away on Friday, June 4th, 2021, after a long struggle with mental illness.  He was 20 years old.

Born on February 2, 2001, Zach lived his entire life in Plano and graduated from Independence High School in Frisco, Texas.   Zach loved traveling with his family and exploring new places.  He looked forward to spending time with his cousins and visiting the family farm in Kingsley, Iowa.  Zach had a special connection with animals, which included his dogs, Camden and Rigleigh, and his bearded dragon, Deardie.

From an early age, Zach had a passion for computers and was studying Computer Science at University of Texas at Dallas, where he had just completed his sophomore year.    In his spare time, he could be seen playing his favorite online games or coding his own operating system.  In high school, his computer science club won several awards and contests at the regional level.

Zach also achieved the highest honor in Boy Scouts of America by receiving the Eagle Scout rank in 2018 with Troop 416 in Plano, Texas.   He enjoyed spending time with his fellow scout friends on monthly camp outs, summer/winter camps and various scouting activities and community service projects.

Zachary is survived by his parents, Kirk and Kelly and his younger sister, Kayla; also survived by his grandparents Jim and Anne Hopper, Liz and Bill Simpson, and Linda Schlotman.  He was loved by 15 aunts and uncles and 14 first cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather Glen Schlotman.

The family will receive friends for a visitation Tuesday, June 8th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 9th at 10:00 a.m. at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church, 6801 Coit Rd. Plano, Texas.
