Wilma (Yvonne) Page Davis was born October 25, 1935 in Chireno, Texas, to parents Homer Arlis and Mary (Duke) Page.
Her family eventually settled in Rockwall, Texas, where she was a majorette and captain of her basketball team her senior year at Rockwall High School. Money was tight, and she had to earn the money for her majorette uniform. She spent the summer prior to her senior year with her Uncle Leslie’s family in Dallas and worked at Wyatt’s Cafeteria in Casa Linda. That is where she met David Davis. David’s mother worked at Wyatt’s as well, and on Sundays all of David’s family gathered there for dinner. Love blossomed and David wanted to marry in the fall, but that would have negated Yvonne’s eligibility to play basketball. After basketball season was over, Yvonne and David married on March 6, 1954. To finish high school, Yvonne rode a bus from Dallas to Rockwall every day and graduated on May 28, 1954.
Yvonne was a doting mom to three children: Paul Glenn Davis, Patsy Davis Brandenburg, and Linda Davis. Yvonne and David moved to Garland, Texas, in the early 50’s. She supported her children in all their endeavors. Yvonne enrolled in El Centro College around 1970 to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. The R.N. program was designed for students to finish in two years. Yvonne juggled family and studies and graduated July 13, 1973. Yvonne immediately hired on with Garland Baylor Hospital and became a permanent fixture as one of the RN’s in the day surgery unit. She retired from Garland Baylor in 1997.
Yvonne’s country roots never faded; she loved to plant a vegetable garden each spring. David would till part of the backyard and Yvonne would plant tomatoes, okra, and beans. She loved to play dominoes with family, shoot hoops with her children, work in her yard, and spend time with family. She loved being a Grandmama to Tara, David and Daniel and attending their events.
Yvonne passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019, surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her children Glenn Davis and his wife Candy, Patsy Brandenburg and her husband Art and Linda Davis; grandchildren David Davis, Daniel Davis, Tara Brandenburg; siblings Larry Page and family, Brenda Monday and family; aunt Madeline McMurray; cousins Charles Duke; Thomas Duke and family; Charlotte Duke and family, James McMurray and Jack McMurray; and a host of nieces and nephews.
