Suzanne Arndt passed from this life on Monday, December 14, 2020, at her home in McKinney, Texas.
Suzanne Therese Leurck, the daughter of the late Paul Alfred Leurck and Gloria Jean Leurck, was born on August 26, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second of four children adopted by her parents. A Michigan native her entire youth, as a young child her family lived in Livonia, moving in 1969 to the small town of Newaygo. She was a 1978 graduate of Newaygo High School. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, David Neil Arndt. They married in August 1979 and began the journey that would eventually bring them to Texas, with stops in Ann Arbor, Michigan and El Dorado, Arkansas before settling in Plano, Texas. Theirs was a happy marriage, and Suzanne and David ran their own photography business for many years. Sadly, David passed away in 2001, and Suzanne never remarried. She also worked as the Photo Manager at Eckert Drug Store, remaining as Photo Manager and Shift Manager as the company transitioned to CVS, totaling over 32 years of service.
Suzanne had a wide range of interests – the results of being a lifelong, voracious reader - a trait that would get her in trouble at school for having paperback novels hidden in her textbooks during class. She especially loved crime and science fiction novels. Suzanne was also an excellent cook and a great fan of Julia Child, a knowledgeable traveler, and she even spent time as a disc jockey at a country music station in Arkansas. On the subjects that interested her, her knowledge was encyclopedic. For her brothers, she was the corporate memory of their collective childhoods. She had the ability to recount long-forgotten shenanigans in vivid detail!
Most of all, Suzanne was kind. Kindness and generosity were truly the hallmarks of her life. She was also a buoyant soul, always sunny and upbeat despite any hardship life placed in her path. She would do anything for her family, friends, and co-workers. And we miss her.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, David Neil Arndt; her parents Paul Alfred Leurck and Gloria Jean Leurck; her older brother, Paul Francis Leurck; nephew Walter Iivo Leurck; and her orange tabby companion, Marmalade. She is survived by her younger brothers, Thomas Anthony Leurck and John Andrew Leurck (Michelle); nephews Thomas Leurck and Daniel Leurck (Shaye); nieces Patricia Kasmark (Gregory), Cassandra Kessler (Jeffrey), and Hailey Leurck; great-nephew Elijah Kasmark; and great-niece Abigail Kasmark.
An Evening of Remembrance will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options in Plano, Texas. A Funeral Mass for Suzanne will be held at St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church in McKinney, Texas at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 22, 2021.
