Robert Duane “Bob” Lemon was born in Slaton, Texas to Esther E. Smith and Lynn T. Lemon on May 6, 1939. He died on December 2, 2023 after several weeks of illness.
An avid musician, Bob played the flute and piccolo, and sang bass in church choirs and the internationally-renowned Vocal Majority. He also enjoyed arranging and studying the history of sacred music.
Bob was a ham radio operator from his teenage years. In the 70’s and 80’s, “W5AXB” enjoyed connecting with other hams worldwide and patching phone calls through his radio to allow missionary families to talk with their families in the States.
With a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, a Master’s Degree in mathematics, and an “all-but-the dissertation” PhD in mathematics (alma maters included Texas Tech University and Texas Christian University), he spent his entire career as an electrical engineer at such companies as Texas Instruments and Raytheon.
He was heavily into genealogy studies and loved to spend time tracking down and reconnecting with distant cousins.
Bob is survived by daughter Katherine Bell; son Joe Alexander and “daughter-in-law-elect” Holly Fisher; step-daughter Kathryn Harris and her partner Scott McCleneghan; and sisters Madeline Kunkel Bate and Vickie Good.
He is also survived by grandchildren Sean Bell and wife Stephanie Oostdyk Bell; Rachael Bell; Samuel Bell; Emma Alexander; and Cole Alexander. Nieces and nephews include Jim, David, and Lori Lemon; Kristin Ferguson; Suzanne Guthrie; and Michael Kunkel.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 27 years, Diane Moss Lemon; his brother and sister-in-law Ron and Kay Lemon; sister Lynda Randolph; mother Esther Smith Odom; father Lynn T. Lemon; and grand-niece Sydney Lemon.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, 4550 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas 75024. A lunch reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church Cathedral in Plano, Texas.
