Lee-Ho Hwang

June 13, 1946 — January 4, 2023

Rev. Lee-Ho Hwang was born on June 13, 1946 to Rev. Liu Tien Hwang and Mrs. Yu Yen Huang in Taiwan. He left to be with the Lord on January 4, 2023 near his home and with his family in Plano, Texas, at the age of 76.

Lee demonstrated an early gift for music and singing, which he developed as a singer in the church choir, as well as a keyboardist and bassist in a popular Taiwanese band. Blessed with a powerful tenor voice, he sang in choirs throughout his life. He also instilled a love for music in his sons through his piano and guitar playing.

Lee was a loving husband to Janet for nearly 50 years. Together they had moved to the United States and raised two sons. His faith was central to his life and family, as demonstrated by his involvement in Bible study groups even as he earned his master’s degree in computer science at Kansas University.

Although Lee had a promising career in the telecommunications industry, his calling was in ministry. He took weekend classes to earn his master’s degree in Biblical studies from the Dallas Theological Seminary extension program and moved to Plano, TX in 1996 to serve as a pastor. He was sent to establish Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church in 2000 to serve the growing Chinese American population in North Plano and Frisco. By the time he retired in 2012, the church had built its own facility and the congregation had grown to over 400 adults, youth, and children. Lee also trained and served as a chaplain at Dallas VA Medical Center, where he was particularly moved by veterans with PTSD.

Lee is survived by his wife, Janet Hwang. His living legacy is found in his son Ken Hwang and his wife Grace; son Joseph Hwang and his wife Rebecca; and his grandchildren Anne, Adam, Ryan, and Sara. He is also survived by his brother Jen Ho Hwang and his wife Amy; brother Abraham Hwang and his wife Susan; brother Joseph Hwang and his wife Judy; brother-in-law Rev. Ying-Chhi Kuo; and his many beloved nieces and nephews – Steve, Patricia, Grace, Alice, Simon, Anna, Bruce, Allen, James, John, Daniel, and David.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Allen Family Funeral Options at 2112 W. Spring Creek Pkwy. Plano TX, 75023. All flowers can be sent to Allen Family Funeral Options.

There will also be a memorial service to celebrate Lee’s life at 10:00 am Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church, 4500 McDermott Rd, Plano, TX 75024 .
