Jack Elmo Oslin was born on November 10, 1928, to parents Earl and Hazel Oslin in Falls City, Nebraska. He spent his early childhood, the oldest of four boys, in Shubert, Nebraska and he graduated from Falls City High School in 1947 where he was an outstanding athlete; playing football and basketball on championship teams.
After high school graduation he joined the Army, spending two years at Fort Riley, Kansas. Leaving the military life, he knew his next step was to get a good education. He applied for and received a scholarship for basketball to Itawamba Junior College in Fulton Mississippi, where he met his wife, Peggy, who was a student there as well. They married in 1952. After leaving IJC he went to Livingston State College in Livingston Alabama, also on a basketball scholarship. In 1957 he received his degree in Petroleum Geology from Mississippi State University.
Jack’s first employment after graduation was with Texaco, Inc. where he spent 9 years. In 1966 he moved the family to Richardson Texas where he became a geophysicist with Placid Oil Co. He later was employed by Texas Oil and Gas and Lear Petroleum. In 1978 he founded his own business Oslin Exploration Co. Ultimately, he semi-retired in 2014.
Jack was a devoted family man. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren beyond measure. One of his greatest pleasures was watching his children and grandchildren participate in their various sports, which were football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, and track. Win or lose, he was one of their greatest fans.
Jack is survived by his wife of 71 years Peggy Oslin; sons Jack Oslin and his wife Heather, Joe Oslin, Jerry Oslin and his wife Denise; daughters Ginger Oslin Rochelle and Joy Oslin Sandidge; grandchildren Buck Oslin and his wife Lindsey, Joanna Mejia and her husband Andres, Bill Oslin and his wife Chelsie, Dennis Oslin, Rachel Bradford and her husband Derek, Katherine Oslin and her fiancé Dom, Rebecca Oslin, Jordan Oslin and his wife Breanna, Olivia Ludlum and her husband Brett, Preston Oslin, Cristi Hood, Josh Prater and his wife Cassie, Jason Rochelle and his wife Erika; beloved great grandchildren Kayli Hood, Nate, Jonah and Ethan Mejia, Zack and Lucas Bradford, and Layla Oslin.
