Gerald Fogarty

Gerald Joseph Fogarty, 81, passed away peacefully in his Dallas home on February 20, 2024. He was born on March 15, 1942 to Paul and Margaret Fogarty in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Jerry graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids and attended Loras College for two years before completing his undergraduate degree in psychology and a doctorate in medicine at the University of Iowa. He married Linda Davies in 1964, and they had four children (John, David, Barbra, and Debra).  After serving in the United States Navy from 1970 to 1972, he had a long and distinguished career as a family medicine physician in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Dallas, Texas. He was beloved by his patients and fond of recalling that he had more than 200,000 visits with people over his 40 years of practice.

He married the love of his life, Beth, in 1984. Jerry, Beth, and step-daughter Kelly moved to Dallas in 1985.

Gerald was known to family and friends as Jerry, Papa, JerBear, or DocFog.  He remained a devoted and lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He loved to read and to learn - even reading the dictionary cover to cover in high school. Jerry was a gardener, a baker, a sports fan, an athlete, and a fount of knowledge. He was a master of puns, a skilled card player, and a friend to everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife Beth; children John Fogarty (Lucy), David Fogarty (Amy), Barbra Fogarty, Debra Came (Scott), and Kelly Zindel (Garrett); grandchildren Alana Miller (Brittney), Nakita Harding, Michael Came, Isabella Zindel, Kincaid Zindel, Claire Fogarty, Aidan Fogarty, Madeline Zindel, and Eyerusalem Fogarty; sisters Sharon Drendel, Pauline Ross, Madonna Schmitt, and Karen Monserud; and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Fogarty, and sister Patricia Kozel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek Dr. Dallas, Texas 75248.
