Donald (Don) E Sears was born July 5, 1934 in Ft Worth, Texas to parents Elbert and Donna (Dyer) Sears. He passed away from this life on November 7, 2018, surrounded by family in Allen, Texas.
At Elder Junior High School, he met his first and only love, Maxine Cornelius, who he began courting. They dated all through their tenure at North Side High School and graduated in 1952 and were married in Fort Worth in 1954. Don attended Texas Christian University, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After graduating from TCU in 1956, Don joined the Air Force and served as a Second Lieutenant, stationed in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Upon leaving the Air Force in 1959, Don started working with Fort Worth Mortgage Corporation and began a 30-year career in the mortgage industry. Don retired as President of Shawmut Mortgage in 1989 in Dallas. They spent most of their retired years living in East Texas at Holly Lake Ranch and then a brief time in Tyler before returning to live in Allen, TX.
Don dedicated his life to serving the Lord. As a church leader, he served as a deacon, elder and song leader in multiple congregations. Don was known as a servant to others, always sensitive to the spiritual and physical needs of those around him. Don was hopelessly committed to his family. His leadership, sense of humor and devotion endeared great respect and affection from Maxine, his children and grandchildren. He was a great spiritual influencer to his family, tirelessly setting an example of God’s love and grace. His legacy will live on throughout the many people he touched in his life. He left this life with the peace of mind knowing that he will be with his Lord in heaven.
Don is survived by his loving wife Maxine Sears; daughter, Nancy Garner and her husband Johnny, son Greg Sears; grandchildren Emily and Jack Sears, Crystal Spencer and her husband Shane, Jonathan Garner and his wife Laura Lee, Courtney Orr and her husband Riley, Josh Wheeler and his wife Shaina, Joseph Wheeler and his wife Taylor; great grandchildren Jackson and Reese Wheeler, Sutton, Callyn and Cannon Spencer and Camden Orr. He was preceded in death by parents, daughter Donna Wheeler, siblings Wesley Sears, Betty Affleck and Glenn Sears.
Funeral services for Don will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of Christ, McDermott Church of Christ 3600 McDermott Road, Plano, Texas 75025. There will be a visitation one hour prior to service at 10:00 A.M.
Don will be laid to rest at 3:00 P.M. at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Rd., Ft Worth, Texas 76134.
