Dolton "Doc" Gillespie

October 15, 1929 — July 1, 2019

Dolton “Doc” Gillespie was born October 15, 1929 in Foster, Oklahoma to parents Robert Henry and Tonie Mae (Griffin) Gillespie. He went to be with the Lord on July 1, 2019 in McKinney, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, and Papa; and was a devoted family man. He and Dorothy (Dottie) had just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 26th.

A daughter couldn’t ask for a better dad. He was absolutely the best - always loving, kind, and supportive. As a Papa he was always eager to spend time with his grandson Grant, who loved him and their time together. Grant looked up to him and always will.

Dolton served his country with pride during the Korean Conflict. He was a quiet man but when he did have something to say you knew it was worth listening to.

Children and animals loved him and were drawn to him whenever they saw him. “Doc”, as he was known at work, was respected by his bosses and fellow employees. He was a quiet but powerful testimony for his Savior. He worked at Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 34 years and had an exemplary record.

Dolton was committed to God and to the work of the local church. He served as a board member at 1st AG in Lubbock for about 40 years. He was always humble and exhibited a servant’s heart.

Fishing and camping brought pleasure to Dolton - especially when he was joined by his grandson Grant and other family members. He loved planting flowers and vegetables and reaping the benefits. Dolton loved watching the birds that would come to his feeders outside the sunroom window. He enjoyed watching them play in the water and tussle over the food. He had an ongoing battle keeping the pesky squirrels out of the feeders and would relate his latest squirrel saga with laughter.

When we went camping, he would make feeders for the hummingbirds out of bright red coke cans and they would flock to our campsite. He loved God’s beautiful creations. Dolton was a good friend to many and a Godly example to all.

Dolton is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gillespie, daughter, Dana Gillespie Christen, son-in- law, Karl Christen, and beloved grandson, Grant Christen. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis Ann, parents, Robert and Toni Mae Gillespie, 7 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Words could never be enough to fully express how much he means to family and friends. Dolton (Doc, Dad, Papa) will be missed but we rejoice in a life well lived.

There will be a visitation Friday, July 5, 2019 at 12:00 P.M. followed by a service to celebrate Doc’s life at 1:00 P.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas

He will be laid to rest at Eastview Memorial Cemetery, Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in Vernon Texas.
