Colby V. Burns was born February 22, 1984 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Michael and Debbie Burns.
When Colby was 6 months old his family made the move to Plano, Texas. He had many friends growing up and had a passion for all sports. Colby enjoyed being independent at a young age. He once rode his bike to a neighborhood store to purchase a pair of shoes and returned home to share his joy in his accomplishment. Later in life he embraced and excelled at all things involving technology. It would not be uncommon for his family to utilize his IT talents on a regular basis.
In 2002 Colby graduated from Plano Senior High. Then following in the footsteps of his brother and sister he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated in May of 2007 with a BA in Management Information Systems.
Upon graduation he began his career with Dell in Austin, Texas. Later moving back to Plano and continued his 13 year IT career, culminating as an account executive for Micro Focus, formally HP.
Colby made a home for himself in Allen, Texas; where he resided with his beloved dogs Misty and Addison. He enjoyed his time researching and installing the latest home technology gadgets. Cars were another passion which he took great pride in.
Colby was a loving son, brother, uncle and grandson. Time spent with his siblings meant a lot to him. He very much enjoyed watching his nephews grow and interact with each other. Colby had a sparkle in his eye and a crooked little grin when interjecting his sense of humor into conversations. He was sequestered with his mother and father at his childhood home during the Covid-19 pandemic. Every day was a blessing that they were able to spend together. We love you Colby and you will truly be missed by all.
Colby is survived by his loving parents Michael and Debbie Burns; siblings, Jamie Butterfield and her husband Richard and Matthew Burns and his wife Ashley; nephews, Blake, Max and Brody Butterfield and Ben Burns; maternal grandmother Laura Nadine Gist; uncle Dennis Gist and his wife Vicki. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James V and Ethel Burns and maternal grandfather, Walter Gist.
The family will be having a private graveside service for Colby.

He only takes the Best
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So, he put his arms around you
And whispered, “Come to me”
With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you pass away
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best
