Michael was born the third son to Walter and Margaret Braxton on July 24, 1959, in Dallas, Texas, and always there for them was his second mother Louise Leask. He was definitely a man proud of his origination and would hold his head higher and puff up his chest proudly when that fact was acknowledged. He comes from a large loving family and family is always what made him happiest.
As a child, he adored his big brother Tim and would follow him everywhere and emulate his every action. He was known as the local snake hunter and held a fascination with moths. He loved sports and spent some time on the track field, played football and loved to fish. The family tells of Michael's unique ability to predict upcoming events. He was very nonchalant about this ability. Perhaps this was a gift inherited through the Native American heritage he so cherished. He considered himself a son of Texas with a little Native American twist.
Upon graduation from high school he spent some time riding broncos in the rodeo ring. Now, if that wasn't a circus enough, he decided to join the Air Force in 1980. He became a jet engine mechanic on the F4E Phantom fighter and was stationed in Ramstein AB, Germany, where he met the love of his life, Kathy Sieve from South Dakota. They were married in 1982 in Brandon, S.D. and were then stationed at Norton AFB in California to complete his enlistment through 1984. Michael and Kathy's path then took them to Maryland where big brother Walt took him under his wing to teach him how to be successful in the Sales world. A year of internship gave him the courage to pursue this career to Dallas, Texas. This choice brought him back home near family and friends and a lifelong career in Copier Sales. This choice was perfect for him, as he loved people and socializing was a large part of what made him tick. He was the "Bestest BBQ'er" in Texas" and loved to share his grilling masterpieces. He loved movies and hated commercials. He saw each day as an adventure and a gamble.
Michael and Kathy were blessed with their son, Brandon Michael, on July 5, 1987 who became the center of their lives. They gained a lovely daughter-in-law, Holly, in 2010 and have been further blessed with their beautiful grandchildren, Dax and Zia, who have brought laughter and pure pleasure into their lives. They recently celebrated the 33rd Anniversary of their marriage in December, 2015.
He will truly be missed by his wife Kathy; son Brandon Braxton and his wife Holly; grandchildren Dax and Zia Braxton; mother Louise Braxton; brother Robert Braxton; sisters Joan Walker and her husband Darrell, Lisa Smith and her husband David, Amy Steen and her husband James; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Margaret O'Connor Braxton and his brothers Walter Braxton, Jr. and Timothy Braxton.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway Plano, Texas 75023, on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 10:30am. Reception to follow. Inurnment will be at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
