James Galbraith

James (Jim) Nelson Galbraith Jr of Plano, Texas passed away on Friday, November 27 with his wife and daughters in attendance. Jim was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to James Nelson Galbraith Sr. and Esther Huston Galbraith who preceded him in death as did his sister, Sara Jane Mitchell. Jim attended the Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia through high school years. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received a BS in physics and a PhD in geophysics. He worked in geophysical research in the Cambridge area after receiving his graduate degree. Jim married his first wife, Joan, and had two daughters, Jennifer and Gillian, while in the Cambridge area. In 1970 he began his career with Mobil Oil Corporation in Dallas, Texas. During his time with Mobil, he was awarded two patents for seismic processing innovations, led many project teams, and held multiple management positions. He met his wife, Barbara, at Mobil Oil where they worked together until Jim's retirement in 1992. He and Barbara spent their early retirement pursuing a passion for photography and travel. Jim developed Vascular Dementia and later Alzheimer's in his retirement years. Jim lived almost 3 years of his life at Arden Courts Memory Care in Richardson, Texas where he received excellent and loving care. His family wishes to thank Arden Courts and Pathways Hospice for all they did to care for Jim in his last days. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara Bland Galbraith; daughter, Jennifer McManaman and her husband, Dave; daughter, Gillian Bramlett and her husband, Matt and their two children, Kate and Charlie; mother-in-law, Mildred Bland; sister-in-law, Shirley Wells; brother-in-law, Bob Mitchell; nephew, John Mitchell and nieces, Meg Sullivan and Milynda Bland.
