William "Willie" Nelson

December 23, 1945 — November 7, 2024

William Charles “Willie” Nelson was born on December 23, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas to parents Wilmer Jay and Bessie Lee Melton Nelson. He passed away suddenly on November 7, 2024, after a valiant battle with heart disease and multiple cell myeloma.

Willie developed a strong work ethic at the early age of twelve by flipping burgers at Bob’s Burgers in Grand Prairie, Texas. He devoted himself to night school, studying relentlessly for 9 years while working 40+ hours a week and raising a young family, and earned his accounting degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and became a licensed CPA.

After a few years of working with CPA firms and partnerships with other CPA's, he paved the way to establish his private CPA practice in 1977. During his 48 years in private practice, he devoted his life to public accounting and served his clients with unwavering dedication. He considered all his clients a part of his extended family and often became known as the “Concierge CPA".

His love for travel became a gift he shared, taking his family to many destinations, including his favorite family destination in Seaside, Florida where they created memories that will last beyond a lifetime. Family time at the lake house was especially memorable as well. He and Janet
enjoyed traveling with friends on cruises throughout Europe, Canada, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Willie loved entertaining and hosting family and friends and always wanted to make sure everyone had an enjoyable time. He especially loved talking about sports and watching football with anyone who shared his love of sports. He always was optimistic that the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Rangers would come out as winners every year.

Willie was a man of faith and was actively involved in Bible Study Fellowship for many years. For the past 5 years, Willie and Janet attended Highland Country Fellowship. They were involved with their weekly small group bible study with dear friends for 17 years.

Willie is survived by his precious and loving wife of 63 years, Janet Adair Nelson and son Damon Nelson (Nita), daughter Delaney Warren (Johnny), sister Sandra Goates (Larry) and sister-in-law Peggy Nelson as well as nieces and a nephew.

Willie's pride and joy are his four adoring grandchildren, Taylor Nelson, Dylan Nelson, Maxwell Warren and Hallie Warren. His love and dedication to his family was shown daily with his loyalty and generosity to those he most dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his father Wilmer Jay Nelson, mother Bessie Lee Melton, brother Ronald Nelson and brother Terry Nelson.

Over the past few years and throughout his illnesses, he always remained positive and optimistic. Willie's sense of humor and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and laughter leaving an impression on those who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Willie was "one of a kind" and he "fought the good fight".
