William C (Billy) Gamble was born on December 30, 1936, in Haleyville, Alabama to parents Earl and Katrina (Howell) Gamble in Haleyville, Alabama. Billy, passed away peacefully in Plano, Texas on September 29, 2022.
He grew up in Tuscumbia, Alabama where he was a Boy Scout in Troop 49, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Deshler High School, Billy attended The University of North Alabama, and later graduated from University of Memphis.
Prior to his retirement in 2001, Billy served 22 years as Scout Executive and CEO of Circle Ten Council, Boy Scouts of America in Dallas, Texas. During his 42-year career as a professional Scout Executive, Billy served in Black Warrior Council in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Chickasaw Council in Memphis, Tennessee, and Birmingham Area Council in Birmingham, Alabama.
In 1997, Billy received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. He was also a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. In 2010, the new Circle Ten Council satellite office was named in his honor, along with his good friend and former Council President, Bobby Lyle.
Billy lived life to the fullest with passion, enthusiasm and integrity. He had a deep devotion and love for God, his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a member of Glen Eagles Country Club in Plano. He played golf in forty states and four foreign countries.
He had a steadfast belief in the importance of giving back to the community. Billy served on the Boards of Meals on Wheels of Collin County, Samaritan Inn, Collin County Christian Prayer Breakfast, Sci-Tech Discovery Center, Greater Dallas Youth Crime Commission, Dallas Kindness Foundation, Stemmons Corridor Business Association, Plano Symphony Endowment, and a member of the Dallas Rotary Club. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas.
Billy enjoyed a wonderful 63 years of marriage to his college sweetheart, Mary Nell Trotter of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
In addition to his wife, Mary Nell, he is also survived by his sons, Steven Gamble and his wife Sarah Lynn and Brian Gamble. He has four grandchildren, Ben, Allie, Lauren and Will Gamble. Both families live in Frisco, Texas.
Honorary pallbearers are Scott Ferguson, Rogers McFerrin, Espie Randolph, Pat Currie, Sam Thompson, Jeff Herman, Zella Tyson, Pete Peterson, and Tim Fuller.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Road, Plano, Texas with Rev. Chris Dowd and Rev. Mike Flynn officiating.
