W. Gene Stewart was born May 9, 1933 in Booneville, Arkansas to Willie and Ruth Stewart. Our Lord and Savior called him home on the morning of January 16, 2020.
Gene was a hardworking, determined young man, who enjoyed learning. He put himself through Centenary College in Louisiana then pursed a Bachelor degree from the University of Arkansas, and later in life, completing a Master’s degree from Southern Methodist University and then a Doctorate of Education from North Texas State University. Gene was a man of many careers. His career path ranged from the US Military, a Credit Manager/Repo Man, part-time preacher, retail management and then to his ultimate, all-time favorite and most awarding career as a college professor for the Dallas County Community College District.
Gene was dubbed ‘All-time Quarterback’ by his kids for front yard football games, Indian Guides participant with his sons and English tutor. Gene was vigilant regarding his daily Bible study, church participation and attending services at his local Church of Christ (CofC). He had an amazing talent for walking into a room, memorizing each person’s name and then addressing everyone by name correctly. He also worked hard in providing relevant, Christian lessons when he was invited to speak at area CofC’s. Gene loved public speaking and as a member of Toast Master’s he had many relevant business lessons available at the drop of a hat.
Gene leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Carolyn, daughter Diane Treusdell and her husband Brian, son Doug Stewart and his wife Melissa and son Jeff Stewart. He will miss his wonderful grandchildren and the love and happiness they brought to his life being Morgan Taylor, Morgan Diane, Andrew, Julian Claire, Grayson and Cash.
Burial services will be held Monday, January 20, 2020 at DFW National Cemetery at 12:30 P.M.
