W. P. "Woody" Adams

October 31, 1943 — December 24, 2018

William P. “Woody” Adams was born on Halloween, October 31, 1943, to Preston Andrew Adams and Thelma Alene Bussell Adams.  Woody was a second-grade nickname that stuck with many folks never learning what the W. P. stood for.  He was the “baby” of the family with a brother, Carlton Dale “Cal” Adams now from Madison, MS.  He had an older sister, Patricia “Pat” Binns from Crossett, AR.  There are numerous nieces and nephews.

Woody attended Natchez High School graduating in 1961. Soon after high school, Woody proudly enlisted in our armed forces.  He served in the United States Air Force in the missile guidance area.  He loved participating in Heroes Day with his grandchildren at Story Elementary.  His service to our country was something very special to Woody and we are very thankful for his service.

Woody went to work in the medical equipment service (first in engineering/service) field after the Air Force and later moved into Sales where he excelled.  He was with General Electric Medical and served as District Sales Manager in various locations. He opened the Toshiba Medical Regional office in Carrollton, TX and in his tenure there was a part of their rapid success in the business. We lived in Little Rock, twice in New Orleans, twice in Atlanta, Memphis and Milwaukee Headquarters.  When we came to Plano, TX we thought we would be there 3 years or so, but it turned into about 33 years between Plano, Prosper and McKinney.  At retirement Woody was with Thermo Fischer Scientific, Medical Division.

Woody married Judy Carol Cloud on September 3, 1977, in Monticello, AR.  They had one son, Joseph “Joe” Andrew Adams.  Joe married Rachael Schrick and they have two children, Landon and Emmie.  Woody had one son from a previous marriage, Aaron Anthony Adams who is owner of Icon Photography, Tupelo, MS, of which Woody was proud.  Aaron has one son, Archer Adams.  Woody and Carol made a habit of moving and moved 9 times in 11 years before landing in TX.  Woody and Carol are members of Prestonwood Baptist Church, North Campus.  Woody ran the cameras for church and helped with security for several years until his health made it necessary for him to stop.  When Woody retired, golf became his passion and he loved to chase the ball with several church friends whose friendship meant so much.

Those who knew Woody knew that his grandchildren were his heart.  No matter how bad he felt, he would trudge on and not miss a game, practice, or whatever they were participating in.  Landon, Emmie and Archer, you held a special place in his heart as did Joe and Aaron (goes without saying).

Woody is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Joe and his wife Rachael and Aaron; grandchildren, Landon, Emmie and Archer; brother, Cal and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018 in the Allen Family Funeral Options Chapel.

Woody will be inurned, with Honors, at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
