Virginia Bond Smith

March 28, 1933 — January 14, 2021

Virginia Bond Smith, 87, passed from the loving arms of her children into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January, 14, 2021 following a massive stroke.  Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in Jesus supported her in her journey and ultimately gave her peace.

Virginia was born to the late John Perry Bond and Ethel Ward Bond, in Harlingen, Texas on March 28, 1933. Her childhood was spent in LaFeria, Texas where she was active in her church, school and community.  Here she met and ultimately married her high school sweetheart, Gene Smith, on May 26, 1951.  They were married for 65 years.  Gene’s work moved them to Schenectady, New York where they had their first two children, Tom and Tim.  His work then moved them to Dallas, Texas where they had their other two children, Lori and Leanne.  Throughout their years together, Gene and Virginia also lived in Houston, Texas, Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Westlake Village, California, Mount Vernon, Texas and Mineola, Texas.  Following Gene’s passing, Virginia lived in Lewisville, Texas until her death.

Virginia was actively involved in many organizations.  Notably, she served at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas in multiple capacities.  She worked with United Way and served as a Camp Fire Girl Leader seeing 6 girls to the highest award.  She participated in and served as an officer in multiple organizations such as Garden Club and Shakespeare Club.  She was instrumental in the design and operation of the kitchen in the Community Center at Mount Vernon United Methodist where they cared for hurricane victims, served children through Lunches of Love, and hosted a wide variety of gatherings.  Virginia and Gene also participated in investment clubs, bridge clubs and book clubs.  She was looking forward to participating in the development of a one-acre garden at 29 Acres, a non-profit where one of her daughters and one of her granddaughters work.  The things listed here only scratch the surface of her involvement with her church, family and community.  Virginia was a leader with a heart for accomplishing things the right way for the benefit of all.  Her legacy resides in her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.  She will be missed by all who knew her and are celebrating the fact that she is at home and at peace with her Creator.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, John Perry and Ethel Ward Bond; her husband, Thomas Eugene “Gene” Smith; and her son, Thomas “Tom” Richard Smith.  She is survived by her two sisters Edna Lee “Sue” Allison of Norman, Oklahoma and Patricia “Pat” Daniel of Jefferson, Texas; her children Melissa Smith of Mineola, Texas, Tim and Linda Smith of Austin, Texas, Ken and Lori Whittaker of Pilot Point, Texas, and Paul and Leanne D’Aloisio of Frisco, Texas; her grandchildren, Brad and Shauna Smith, Katie and Eric Ballard, Aaron and Anna Smith, Maryanne and Lorne Liechty, Evan and Lauren Smith, Jennifer and Kevin Walker, Celina Crisman, Morgan McKay, Anthony D’Aloisio, Greyson D’Aloisio; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Adyson, and Owen Ballard, Reed and Phoebe Smith, Hannah, Mary Kate, and Lorne Liechty, and Hallie and Hunter Walker; and many treasured nieces and nephews.
