Virginia "Ginny" Ellen Currier Watson was born December 17, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri as the cherished only daughter of Roy and Juanita Currier, and she peacefully went to be with the Lord from her home in Plano, Texas on October 11, 2023.
Ginny spent her childhood in St. Louis where she made lifelong friends and graduated from Ritenour High School in 1966. She attended Bethany Nazarene College in Oklahoma, and there she met James Carl Watson, whom she wed on December 29, 1967. Jim and Ginny's life adventures took them from Bethany to homes in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Shreveport, and Plano. Ginny was a devoted wife of 55 years, beloved mother to four children, treasured grandmother to eleven grandchildren, and great-grandmother to one. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Ginny humbly and selflessly served her family with her life. She was an excellent cook, an enthusiastic celebrator of accomplishments great and small, and everyone's favorite confidante. She sewed beautiful clothes, Halloween costumes, and Raggedy Ann dolls for her children, and she crocheted baby blankets and smocked bonnets for her grandchildren. She was an extraordinary caretaker and home manager. She taught her grandchildren how to can homemade peach preserves and cross-stitch at her annual "Gramp Camp," and they all loved trips to "Grandma's Park" in her neighborhood. She also served her church in many capacities over the years as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School and GAs leader, Bible Study Fellowship group leader and pianist. Ginny worked outside the home when needed, as well.
In Shreveport, she was a library clerk for Blanchard Walker Law Firm, and a receptionist for Osborn Funeral Home. In Dallas, she worked as a receptionist for Coho Resources Inc. Ginny especially loved spending quality time with her family and friends, who were very dear to her.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Jim Watson; her four children and their spouses, Jill (and Rod) Coulter, Jamie (and Kevin) Roberts, Joy (and Sean) McMurray, and Jim (and Cheryl) Watson; her eleven grandchildren, Caitlin Coulter, Caroline (and Liam) Langdon, Christine Coulter, Bentley Coulter, Chloe Coulter, Beau Coulter, William Roberts, Ana Roberts, Faith (and Nathaniel) Perschke, Grace Harmon, and Jack Harmon; her great-grandson Briggs Watson Perschke; and her brother, Roy Currier.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 11:00-11:30 a.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023, followed by the funeral service to celebrate Ginny’s life at 11:30, at Allen Family Funeral Options officiated by Pastor Alan Moore.
