Violet Ulala Stewart, affectionately known as "Ms Downer" or "Aunt Punchu" to her family and close friends, was born on July 9, 1928 in Trelawny, Jamaica in a town called Stettin. She was born to the late Robert Downer and Edith Downer. She attended school in Albert Town, Trelawny and also met her husband, the late Harold Stewart there.
As a teenager Violet and her best friend loved to style hair and enjoyed many hobbies together. Violet was known for her amazing cooking and baking. She made the best fruit cake and potato pudding that existed. She was also known for making yam wine and was so good at it that she even won a yam festival contest in Albert Town, Jamaica. She loved to crochet and made table clothes, blankets, baby clothing and much more. She used her talents to help plan weddings in the Albert Town area. She was a motherly figure to the community as she housed, fed and cared for many in Jamaica. She had a heart of gold, was a very giving person and liked to make people laugh. She was very involved with church since the age of 2 and was involved with many activities including singing in the choir, cooking, baking and helping with the harvest festival each year.
In 2011, Violet immigrated to the United States to be with her daughter Daun and grandchildren in Plano, Texas.
