Vellie Buzon King, age 62, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, friends that are like family, and the faith that carried her throughout her life.
Born on January 10, 1964, in Davao City, Philippines, to Rodrigo and Zeny Buzon, Vellie was the third of five children. She spent much of her life both in the Philippines and the United States, graduated from Maryknoll College and built a life marked by resilience, devotion, and deep connections with others.
Vellie was a strong woman of faith whose love for God became even more evident during her illness. She found strength and sisterhood through her faith communities, from her early singles group to the household groups she and her husband later joined through Missionary Families for Christ (MFC). She was well liked at work and built lasting friendships with her co-workers. Her unwavering belief and positive outlook uplifted those around her, even in the most difficult moments.
She loved traveling, especially to beach destinations—and had explored many islands throughout the Caribbean. She was also a wonderful cook, always preparing more food than needed so she could share with others, Gift-giving was her love language, and she delighted in finding the perfect present.
Vellie found the love of her life in her husband, Billy King; their relationship was truly a match made in heaven, built on shared joy, laughter, travel, and a love for sports, especially baseball. They were married on June 13, 2015, and shared nearly 11 beautiful years together.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Billy King; her siblings, Vidian Valera (Tony), Metsue Leonardo (Vic), Ronnie James Buzon (Anna), and Sherill Montemayor (Mike); and her cherished nieces and nephews: Diane Valera; Aldrich Valera (Rina) and their daughter Roen; Adrian Valera (Rachel); Matthew Leonardo (Lindsey) and their sons Jaden and Kai; Jessica Marie, Aaron, Rodney, and James Buzon; and Miko and Joshua Montemayor.
She had a special way of loving her nieces and nephews, making each of them feel seen, celebrated, and deeply cherished. Whether through thoughtful gestures, shared traditions, or simply her presence, she created lasting bonds that will be carried forward of generations.
To her family, Vellie was a patient and caring sister who quietly and selflessly attended to the needs of others. To her many friends, from her early singles group to her church communities and colleagues, she was a loyal, generous, and joyful presence whose friendships lasted a lifetime.
Vellie’s life was a testament to faith, love, generosity, and kindness. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
There will be a visitation from 11:00-11:30, followed by an 11:30 rosary and a 12:00 p.m. mass on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. There will be a reception immediately following the mass.
