Tullio Sheffield

July 2, 1940 — February 3, 2023

Tullio Sheffield was born on July 2, 1940, in Trieste, Italy, to parents Anna Palcich and Antonio Guadanino.

He moved to the United States in 1953 with his mother and adoptive father Ivan Sheffield. They were stationed in Germany from 1955 to 1958, where Tullio graduated from Baumholder American High School in 1959. He returned to the US after graduation and settled in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where he met Carol Kuether, the love of his life. They were married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on August 17, 1963.

In 1963, Tullio also enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Vietnam War with Automatic Flight Control Systems before being honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1967.

He and Carol settled first in Garland, Texas, and then moved to Plano a year later. Beginning in 1967, Tullio worked for Texas Instruments as an electronic technician. In 1972, he received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and became an electrical engineer for TI. In 1980, he received his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University. He retired from Raytheon (previously TI) in 2005.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Tullio always put his family first and was a constant, comforting presence in his family’s life until his passing. Whether there was a ceiling fan to be fixed, a grandchild’s sports game to attend, or a soccer team to coach, he was there to help and support the people he loved in whatever way he could.

Tullio will be greatly missed and will hold a special place in our hearts until we see him again.

Tullio went to his heavenly home and met the Lord on February 3, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Carol Sheffield; his daughters, Christine Gray (Steven) and Rachelle Garza (Albert); and his grandchildren, Zachary Gray, Alexander Garza, Ashley Gray, and Ian Garza.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Elizabeth Sheffield and Sharon Schroeder.

Faith Lutheran Church of Plano will host a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023. A light lunch will follow the service. He will be laid to rest with military honors at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery on March 10, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tullio’s name to Faith Lutheran Church and School or to the American Cancer Society https://donate3.cancer.org
