Tsang-Ling (Jeanette) Chang

January 9, 1949 — November 20, 2023

Tsang-ling “Jeanette” Chang was born in Taipei, Taiwan and suddenly went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2023, at the age of 74. Jeanette was the eldest of four children and accepted Christ in her teenage years through her Catholic School upbringing.

Jeanette majored in English Literature and graduated from Tam Kang University in Taipei, where she met her husband Philip who was studying physics. They married on July 29, 1973, and this year was their 50th wedding anniversary. They both relocated to Edwardsville, Illinois for Philip to study a master’s in physics and a master’s in applied Math at the Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville.

In the 1970s, they moved to Richardson, Texas and began a family, with daughters Vicki and Elizabeth. While Philip worked as a telecom software engineer, Jeanette started Friendly Oriental Grocery Store (One of the earliest Chinese grocers in North Texas) as well as All Star Japanese Engines, next to Addison Airport. All Star regularly imported and exported pre-owned Japanese engines under 30,000 miles from Japan and repaired cars.  All Star remains in business today.

God moved Jeanette to deeply love His Word; she had hundreds of Christian books in her library.  Every morning, one could find her writing, reading, and underlining her Bible. God also moved Jeanette and Philip to serve as church counselors and mentors for the Overseas Chinese Youth at Dallas Chinese Fellowship Church for thirteen years by opening their home during the holidays to be a “home away from home” for international students.

Christmas was Jeanette’s favorite time of the year as she shared God’s blessings with gifts to the local Corner Bakery and La Madelaine staff every year. She loved Christmas music all year around, along with worship music on the 24-hour, Christian TV programs, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Her favorite bible verse was, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

During the last four years since her major stroke, Jeanette’s strength, humor and love for music continued to shine in ER visits, hospital stays, kidney dialysis visits, multiple surgeries, and doctor office visits. There have been numerous God winks and testimonies of angels watching her on extended time these last four years.
