Trey Pool was born Donald Ray Pool III, on September 16, 1991, in Plano, Texas to parents Don and Dj Pool. He passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2022.
Trey Pool was a lot of things to a lot of people. He was a hardheaded son. A pestersome younger brother. An irreverent cousin. Trey was also a comedian when you needed a laugh. He was the voice of encouragement when you were mired in doubt. He was a comforter and counselor when you needed it the most. And he had an innate ability to sense in others when they did.
To know Trey was to love Trey, whether you realized it at the time or not. He possessed an uncanny ability to create a considerable connection with anyone he met. He carried that skill through life, forging meaningful relationships and building bridges between strangers from grade school to college to his professional life. There was no avoiding it; Trey was either going to make you laugh or get on your nerves, and you were going to love him for either. And you’d be hard pressed to find someone who knew Trey that didn’t have a story to tell, even if that story shouldn’t be told in public. Trey’s ability to connect with others led him to a degree in hospitality and a career that allowed him to connect with others all the time. His personable nature and empathetic charm ensured he never met a stranger. Trey was passionate about a few things, and that included his family. Few people have the same level of love and connectedness to family that T-Man had. And he was kind enough to share them with the others in his life; if you were his friend, you were also a part of the family, an honorary Pool, and you were lucky to be. Trey never strayed far from his family and his home, even if sometimes they wished he would – or at least just stay off the Ring doorbell.
Trey was also very passionate about sports. He was an athlete in his younger years, but always enjoyed tossing around a football, dusting off his mitt and playing catch, or beating children at tennis. Trey logged many hours in the bleachers of Arlington, AT&T, Donald W. Reynolds, and other ballparks and stadiums across the country cheering on his teams or just enjoying the atmosphere. You didn’t tell Trey the odds or predict to him a loss because it didn’t matter. From whistle to whistle, first pitch to last out, Trey was a fan’s fan, certain of success until the end. He especially loved watching with pride as his loved ones took to the field, whether it was Leopard Stadium or Razorback Stadium.
Trey was an infectious optimist with a lyrical soul that could find the silver lining in the best or worst of occasion. That shined through in his love of sports, nurtured by perpetual disappointment at the hands of the Rangers, Razorbacks, or Cowboys. But it also shined through in his relationships with his family and his friends, for whom he cared most about.
A great poet once wrote that people will forget the things you did and the things you said, but they will never forget the way you made them feel. Trey made us feel. He made us feel happy. Frustrated occasionally. Seen and appreciated. But always loved.
He was larger than life. And as such, his sudden and premature departure leaves behind a large hole in the lives of those who loved him. But we know that one day, we’ll see him again. And until then, we’ll see him in every Razorback game, in every inappropriate joke, in the lives of those he touched, and in every fond memory.
Trey is survived by his parents Don and Dj Pool; sister Kaci Pool and Jan Andre Williams; nephew Braxtyn "Meek" Williams; paternal grandfather Al Burke; maternal grandmother Jean Hamby; aunts and uncles Jeff Pool and Laurie, Jackie Davis and Luke, Jessica Strack and Jonathon, Debbie Hays and Mel, Chuck Hamby and Jennifer; cousins Maddie, Bumper, Harper, Cy, Lilly, Gus, Robbi, Jackson, Grady, Graham, Fletcher, James, Jason, Addi, Avery, Audrey, Charlie and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Donald Ray Pool, Sr., paternal grandmother Glynda Burke and maternal grandfather Charles Hamby.
