Tom Salmon

Thomas Eugene Salmon, beloved father to Jason and Janae, devoted husband to Ellen, and brother to Bill passed away of Covid complications due to Alzheimer’s on December 2nd, 2024.

Born in Jacksonville Texas to Horace and Adyelene Salmon, and brother to Bill Salmon, Tom played four years of East Texas High School football, served four years in the US Air Force, spent 33 years in the Plano Independent School District, several more years on the board of directors for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Dallas and Jacksonville College, decades as a deacon in his church, and more than a half century as a loving family man doling out understated wisdom over plates of hash browns, public golf courses, and the steering wheels of riding lawnmowers.

Beyond the professional accolades, the spiritual leadership and the above average 10-foot jumper, Tom's greatest gift was that he saw people, he knew people, and he knew how to love people. No matter when you crossed his path, he made that path brighter and easier.

Whether or not you knew he was a Christian, you witnessed it. Whether or not you deserved kindness, you experienced it. Whether or not you needed him to pray for you, he was doing it.

Tom was a huge fan of Dallas sports, westerns, chicken fried steak, and RC Cola with peanuts. Lest you think he was some sort of cowboy saint, you should also know that he did not really like chicken, he preferred driving in the right-hand lane, and sometimes just made-up lyrics to songs when he sang them.

But he was our dad and our husband, and our friend and he will be missed by all who knew him and whose lives were made just a little bit better every time he was around.

Beyond his immediate family, he is survived in death by the many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws who he loved and enjoyed.
