Timothy "Tim" Brooks Smith

Timothy Brooks Smith, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. He was born in Harlan, Kentucky, on May 12, 1942.

Tim spent his adult life in Dallas, Texas, where he built a remarkable career, cherished his family, and touched countless lives through his generosity, kindness, and unwavering faith. Tim's love for God, his family, and helping others defined his life. He had a good heart, lived well, and embraced every opportunity life offered. He loved traveling, boating, sailing, freshwater and saltwater fishing, water skiing, snow skiing, designing and building innovative electronics, and sharing his many talents with others. Blessed with a sound mind and good health, he remained independent and active throughout his life. Our prayers were granted as he passed peacefully.

Tim earned his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1969. During his distinguished career at Texas Instruments, he helped design semiconductor technology that contributed to space exploration, including electronics that traveled to the moon and back. His pioneering work on the Analog product line and the development of Schottky Logic helped shape the future of Texas Instruments. In 1985, he was one of the first four recipients of the prestigious Pat E. Haggerty Innovation Award, presented by Mark Shepherd, Chairman of the Board of Directors, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Texas Instruments and the societies it serves.

Tim's love and faith were abundant. He spent a lifetime loving, encouraging, and helping others, leaving a legacy that will continue through all who knew him. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on Tim. Grant him many blessed years and a peaceful ending. Remember him in Your Kingdom.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma Bishop Redeker Smith; his children, Gregory Lee Armstrong, Tammy Jane Smith Lahutsky and her husband Thomas, Donald Franklin Armstrong and his wife Lauri and Timothy James Smith and his wife Yvette. He is also survived by his stepchildren Geneva Duff and her husband Bret and Jonathan Yoder and his wife Heather. Tim was a proud grandfather to Nicholas Thomas Lahutsky and his wife Erin, Natalie Christine Lahutsky Bor, Mary Katherine Lahutsky, Laeney Helene Armstrong and Ayla Donn Armstrong. He was blessed with great-grandchildren Cato Nicholas Lahutsky, Holden Smith Lahutsky, Sevin Isla Hunter, and Donnis Kell Hunter. He was preceded in death by his father, Brooks Bellan Smith; his mother, Barbara Williams Stewart; and his brother, Mark Rodney Smith.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2026, at Allen Family Funeral Options.
