Thomas E. Hodges, age 93, passed away on April 9, 2020 from natural causes. Tommy was born to Barney and Lucy Hodges on November 29, 1926. The family endured the loss of his sister, Irma Hodges, as a result of the tragic New London school explosion in 1937. He graduated London High School in 1944 which is the same school year London won the district football championship and he was the starting quarterback.
Tommy served in the United States Navy as a Fireman, 1st Class during WW II and was honorably discharged in July, 1946. He then attended Kilgore College and earned an Associate of Arts in 1948. Subsequently, Tommy attended Texas Christian University and received a B.S. in Business in 1950. Immediately following his graduation from TCU, he began a 37 year career with Nabisco, which included many recognition awards. He started as a sales representative and retired after assuming various director level positions at the company headquarters in New York and New Jersey. His sons always had one of the most popular houses in the neighborhood given all the available cookies, crackers and snacks.
After retirement, Tommy and his wife Shirley, moved back to their home state of Texas where Tommy worked as a golf marshal at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas. He thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the staff, crew and members but left Bent Tree in 2006 to become the caregiver for Shirley. Tommy enjoyed playing golf and tennis, and liked watching the Dallas Cowboys.
He was a good man, honest and unpretentious, whose greatest love was his family who he always put before himself. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend whose unconditional love, guidance, caring and support was cherished in the hearts of his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley and is survived by his sons Phil Hodges and his wife Tammy, Kyle Hodges and his wife Shelby, grandchildren Michael Hodges and his wife Neree, Chris Hodges, Peter Czojor, Deanna Czojor and great grandchildren Presley Hodges and Lincoln Hodges. Burial will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A memorial with honors and celebration of life with family will occur in the future.
