In Loving Memory of “Tommy Toledo”

8/30/1938- 5/5/2023

Thomas “Tom” Elling Baldwin, 84, of Richardson, Texas passed away peacefully on May 5, 2023, after a brief battle with a blood infection complicated by his Alzheimer’s condition. Tom Baldwin was the son of Gertrude (Elling) and Edward Lewellyn Baldwin, whom preceded him in death.

Tom was born in Wood County, Ohio on August 30, 1938. Due to the economic crises of the Great Depression years, his parents delayed his birth like many other families who struggled to find employment and stability. During his childhood years, Tom would spend his time with his cousins riding bikes navigating the streets of Toledo, Ohio and sharing stories of their summer vacations. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army in summer of 1960, joining the 611 Transportation Company in Fort Riley, Kansas serving as a parts clerk while also earning his Marksman Rifle Carbine and Good Conduct medal before completing his enlistment as a Specialist E-4 and receiving an Honorable Discharge in the summer of 1962.

In 1962, Tom met Juanita Lopez and married in Toledo Ohio. They began a life of family and one of continued devotion to the Roman Catholic faith. The family later moved to Portland, Texas in 1978 where Tom lived a humble and modest life working as an Oil & Gas Refinery operator providing for his family. He was best known and remembered for his friendly, easy-going demeanor and humorous one-liners. His eyesight and independence were challenged at an earlier than expected age as result of macular degeneration followed by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Tom is survived by his son, David Baldwin (Nora) of Cedar Park, Texas, his daughter, Jennifer “Jenny” Dyer (Todd) of Southlake, Texas, his son and daughter-in-law Aaron and Angie Baldwin of Richardson, Texas, his foster daughter, Lori Houser of Arizona; his five grandchildren, Dylan Baldwin, Kohl and Libby Dyer, William and Emery Baldwin; his half-brother, Edward Baldwin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven by his wife, Juanita Baldwin; his son Michael Baldwin; his parents and his sister, Iris.

A celebration of a life will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Rd, Richardson, Texas on Friday May 19, 2023. The family welcomes you to attend the Rosary at 10:00am with the Funeral Mass at 10:30am, followed by burial in his final resting place, St. Joseph's Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 600 South Jupiter Road, Richardson, TX 75081.
