Theodore "Ted" Lyons

December 29, 1942 — August 15, 2021

Theodore Lyons (Ted) entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday August 15, 2021.

He was born December 29, 1942 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan to Merlin L. and Helen A. Lyons.  He is survived by the love of his life for over 60 years Kathryn (Kay), his cherished son Troy and his wife Celie Lyons, precious daughter Tina and husband Rob Van Zeeland, along with his 7 grandchildren Abigail, Sarah, Nate, Bekah, and John Lyons, Luke, and Josh Van Zeeland.  He is also survived by his brother Graham and wife Nancy Lyons, sister-in-law Pansy Shaffer, nephews Mark and Paul Lyons, nieces Sandy Valentine and Karyn O’Connell.  He was also blessed to know and be survived by their spouses and the many second nephews and nieces and their families.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Bill, sister-in-law Sue, and nephews Steve and Mel.

Ted grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado graduating from University of Denver with a degree in History and Economics. He had a career in banking and hospital administration.  He was a faithful follower of Jesus serving and loving others through bible studies, being an elder, and devotedly leading his family.  His best friend, soulmate and life partner Kay was the joy of his life on Earth.   He taught his children to honor what is Holy and right.  Everyone who knew Ted knew he was good for a gourmet meal, treated with respect, and subjected to endless jokes.  He never met a stranger and was a generous soul who was loved by all. His grandchildren have been given a legacy of Godly heritage.  He lived a rich life filled with friendship, family, and faith.

Ted was a loving husband and father.  He put his faith in Jesus the Messiah when he was 16 and lived with the hope and assurance of eternal life that Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection provides for all who believe.   He served the body of Christ with gifts of service, Bible Study, Church administration and as an Elder in his Church.   He was very generous and gave to many people and charities of which Samaritan's Purse was one of the last donations he made.  They bring relief and hope to those in need with various emergency responses like the recent Haiti earthquake as well as children in impoverished situations.

If you desire to honor Ted with a memorial gift, there will be a memorial page once the organization processes it under the name Ted Lyons at this link:

We found this scripture below written in Ted's handwriting on a bookmark in his Bible that we hope will comfort you as it comforts us - 2 Corinthians 4:7, 13-18

7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. ... 13 Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, 14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. 15 For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."

A service will be held on Friday August 20, 2021 at 3:00pm, located at Allen Family Funeral Options 2112 W. Spring Creek Parkway Plano, Texas 75023.  For those who cannot attend, the service will be webcast Live and recorded for future viewing at: http://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/58871
