Susie Hanneman passed away on November 8, 2017, after fighting an incredibly brave, 14-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was 68 years young.
Susie lit up the room. She was a colorful, loving, fun, smart, and kind person who did everything to make you feel special. An educator in Plano Independent School District for 18 years, Susie’s heart belonged to children. Even in her last weeks, her eyes would light up when kids were around her. She was a gifted teacher and mentor to many who were lucky enough to know her.
“Lucky” is how her family describes themselves, for having had Susie at all. Married to Kent, Susie was a life partner that danced in the kitchen with you in good times and in bad, and they danced for 44 years. As a mom, Susie was always there for Amy and Joel, never missing the little moments, making her kids feel as if they were the most important people in the world.
Susie loved her siblings, Loee (husband Curt), Bob (wife Shar), and Rick (wife Linda), and treasured her nieces and nephews Debbie, Keri, Wendy, Rusty, Julie, and Ryan. She also had a huge place in her heart for their children Brittany, Jessica, Brandon, Laina, Zach, Alexis, Shaye, and Signey.
Gone too soon, her 7 grandchildren will unfortunately not have her to teach them the wonders of howling at the moon, reading books, watching hawks, collecting trivets, making pecan tootie cookies, listening to great music, writing cursive, or watching pigs fly. However, she was such a unique person that her legacies live on through the memories and traditions that Amy (husband Vaso) and Joel (wife Kiala) are passing down to Aubree, Alice, Miles, Susie, Ty, Lily, and Lottie.
Susie’s beloved parents, Russ and Alice Malinsky, preceded her in death. May they be together today.
If Susie were here, she might say something similar to what she wrote a few years ago in a letter to family and friends: “Time races by, memories muddle, but it’s the dancing in the kitchen I’ll never forget. Y’all dance now."
The Hanneman family extends their love and appreciation to you for the special role you played in Susie’s life. Thank you for being a part of her happiness.
An Evening of Remembrance will be held, Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 5-7:00 P.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options.
