Beverly Sue Hudgins, 87, of Plano, Texas, passed away December 22, 2024. She was born on February 19, 1937, to the late Marvin J. and Anita Davis Young in Plainview, Texas. She was the younger sister of Carol Ann, who preceded her in death.
In her early years, Sue grew up on her parents’ farm in Hale County, Texas and attended a one-room rural school with her sister for the first few grades. Later her family moved to Plainview where she attended and graduated from Plainview High School. Sue was very involved in the band (playing alto saxophone), particularly as an outstanding twirler. She was small, but her voice and leadership skills were big, resulting in her selection as drum major.
Sue later attended University of North Texas and Texas Tech University until she married Earnie and began raising her family while working part-time. She was a long-time member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Lubbock and worked as their financial administrator for several decades before retiring.
Sue was a tireless care giver for aging and ailing family members for many years. At one point she was the primary care giver for four family members at the same time.
One of her joys was serving as a life member of the woman’s sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, in Plainview, Lubbock, and Plano. She served in many leadership roles through all the degree levels of the organization, where she was most recently in a Master chapter.
Sue loved her family and the times when family would gather. She enjoyed all types of cards and board games and was a master 42 player. She was also a devoted football fan of the Red Raiders and Cowboys.
Sue is survived by her two sons, Jerry L. Hudgins (wife Sheryl) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Roger W. Hudgins (wife Holly) of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren Sarabrynn, Graham, Courtney, William, Bradley, and Matthew and seventeen great-grandchildren. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest E. Hudgins.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:00-7:00p.m., Friday, January 3, 2025.
Sue will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Plainview, Texas.
