Steve was born August 15, 1951 in Davenport, Iowa to parents John and Helen (Speidel) Britton. He grew up in the Catholic Church and was an altar boy. He graduated from Assumption High School where he excelled as a right handed baseball pitcher which led to a scholarship to The University of Wisconsin. From there he transferred to Arizona State University after a couple years and finished up his baseball career pitching for the Sun Devils. He graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
Steve had 4 loves in his life: his family, his pets, traveling, and sports.
His pets to him were just like family members. Keisha, Sasha, Molly, Missy, Church, Bella, Lucy and his one “true athlete” Maggie all felt his love over the years.
Steve really enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. From England to Scotland, Belgium to France, Canada to Costa Rica, Ecuador to Mexico he enjoyed them all. But out of every place he visited Hawaii was his favorite destination. Steve & Joyce started visiting Hawaii in the late 70’s with his parents, John and Helen Britton, and they never stopped.
Steve was a huge sports fan and loved going to all the Dallas teams’ games with his kids Jonathan and Stephanie. He also coached many of his children’s sports teams over the years. He always said if he did it over again he would be a Sports Commentator since he was able to predict all the plays.
His family was the most important aspect of Steve’s life and he was an awesome father, husband and new grandfather to baby Shelby. He and Joyce, his soulmate and best friend, saw the world together and wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Just like his father John, Steve never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone and know their whole life story by the end of the conversation. His sense of humor was infectious and he always lightened up the room.
Steve will be truly missed but we know he is walking on the beach in Heaven as we speak.
Steve is survived by his wife Joyce Christopher Britton, children Stephanie Michelle Britton, Jonathan Christopher Britton and wife Amanda (Tindell), granddaughter Shelby Elizabeth Britton, sister Barbara (Britton) Hammerlink and her husband Edward, niece Shara Hansen and her husband Doug.
