Steven William Anto was born in Leechburg, Pennsylvania to parents Michael and Helen Anto. He was the oldest of two sons and is preceded in death by his brother Robert Anto (Bobby).
Steve graduated from Leechburg High School where he played varsity football and basketball. After graduation, he gained employment as a glass maker for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War entering in 1952. Steve was honorably discharged in 1956 leaving with the rank of Staff Sargent. During his military career, he spent half of his time in Alaska which at the time was considered international land as it did not become a state until 1959. Steve was stationed in Las Vegas for the second part of his service.
Steve married his first love, Dolores Sublinsky in January 1957 and together they had Steve, Kevin, and Carrie. Dolores passed away in January 1965.
He later married Joyce Feria in August 1965. They lived in Michigan, New York, and Illinois where they had Michael before settling down in Plano, Texas in 1977. In August 2019, they celebrated their 54 th wedding anniversary.
His career high point was working for Abbott Laboratories where he worked his way up to Regional Sales Manager before retiring in 1988.
Steve always read the entire newspaper from front to back, keeping up to date on current events and sports. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends at his home in Plano where they spent many hours in their pool and cooking for all. Most friends could not leave until he fed them.
He was a wonderful man who didn’t know a stranger. He would often carry on long conversations with the butcher or the baker at the grocery store. Steve remembered everyone he met and always knew what was going on with their lives, making sure to always ask about how their families were doing.
Steve believed and taught his children that family should always come first. He loved Joyce with all his heart and considered her his angel. His greatest joy was his grandchildren always proud of everything they accomplished. To him, family was the most important part of his life.
Steve has left a lasting imprint in the hearts of his family with many happy memories and stories to be retold for years to come. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bobby and first wife Dolores and is survived by his wife Joyce Anto, children Steven Anto (Sandy), Kevin Anto (Lisa), Carrie Pettett (Michael), Michael Anto (Tricia), grandchildren Steven and Samantha Anto, Lauren Wilson (Evan), Derek Anto, Wyles Pettett, Heather Reeves (Thomas), Hailey Pettett, Grace Anto and also great-grandbaby Adeline Wilson who will arrive in January of 2020.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano Texas 75023 with Father Michael Baynham as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the SETON Columbarium and a reception will be held in the Parrish Hall.
