William “Stan” Hammack was born on September 23, 1933, in Quanah, Texas. Stan passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024. He was the only child of Buford and Bertha Hammack.
Stan grew up in Farmers Valley, Texas, where his family lived as tenant farmers. He was especially fond of driving their John Deere Model H tractor. His mother was a schoolteacher and taught her son in a one-room schoolhouse. He went to Chillicothe High School where he played football and baseball and then attended Texas Tech University, earning a degree in Dairy Science. Stan and Margaret married June 28, 1954, and settled in Garland, Texas, where all five of their children were born.
He worked in the food manufacturing industry his entire life, relocating the family to Georgia, Illinois, and returning home to Plano, Texas, for the remainder of his life. He worked for a variety of companies over the years, including Kraft Foods, Standard Brands, Anderson Clayton Foods, Frito Lay, and Wyatt Cafeterias. He had a vast knowledge about food and food manufacturing, creating many formulas when working in the food industry, some still used today. He was an excellent cook, and his children often called him for help when they first moved out on their own. Stan liked to stay busy, so after retirement, he enjoyed maintaining his lawn and delivering flowers for a local florist.
One of Stan’s favorite pastimes was keeping up with high school football. Stan and Margaret had reserved seats at Clark Stadium to watch the Plano Wildcats each Friday night and eventually watched their daughter Jane march on the field with the Wildcats Band. He also liked watching college and professional football games on television. Stan also enjoyed studying maps of Texas and locating small towns and discussing information he knew about these towns.
Stan was a good husband and father, tremendously loyal to his family and work. He instilled strong values and work ethic in his children, guiding them in their career paths.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margaret Hammack. He leaves behind his five children and eight grandchildren: Bill, his wife Leslie, along with their children, Emily, Benjamin and wife Madelyn, and Claire; Mary; Steve, his wife Susan, along with their children, Amy and Kyle; John, his wife Danielle, with their child, Lauren; Jane, her husband Alan, along with their children, Daniel and Andrew.
