Shirley Rind

September 24, 1935 — March 4, 2025

Shirley Varner Rind, born to Mattie and Lee Varner in Bennington, Oklahoma, on September 24, 1935, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, to be with our Lord and Savior.

Shirley met the love of her life, John Rind, in third grade, and their love story spanned more than 70 years. After graduating from Colbert High School in 1953, with a class of 16, Shirley enrolled at Southeastern State University. She later followed John to Norman, Oklahoma, where he attended the University of Oklahoma. They married in 1955 during his sophomore year. Upon graduation, they began their life together, moving to various places across the country, including Maryland, where they welcomed their son, Craig, in 1959, followed by Rome, New York, Lubbock, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where they welcomed their daughter, Cheryl, in 1962. Over the years, they also lived in Portland, Oregon, Sunnyvale, California, San Mateo, California, and Dallas, Texas, where they settled to be closer to family.

Shirley, lovingly known as 'Nana', had an infectious smile that could light up any room. She was adored by all who knew her. Whether through her work, church, or involvement in the Richardson Women's Club, Shirley formed deep and lasting friendships.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, in 2014, and her son, Craig, in 2019. She is also preceded in death by her three sisters: Mozelle, Mary, and Johnanna. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl, and son-in-law Tim, grandsons Cole and John, granddaughter Mattie and her husband Connor, and daughter-in-law Debbie. Shirley also became a proud great-grandmother to her first great-grandson, Campton Lee, in 2024.

A one-of-a-kind woman, Shirley's kindness, warmth, and love will be missed beyond measure by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In loving memory of Shirley, may we all continue to honor her legacy of love and joy.
