Shawn Hughes

Shawn Alexander Hughes was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 24, 1982, to parents John and Lois (Alexander) Hughes.

His family moved to Plano Texas in 1985 and Shawn become a true Texan. He played football in middle and high school but gave it up for La Crosse in senior high. He was co-captain of the Plano East La Crosse team and named to the Texas All State team. At PESH, he was named to the Who’s Who of United States High School Students.

Shawn spent one summer helping his grandfather in Memphis when “Hurricane Elvis” came through. He cleared his grandfather’s yard and then spent days helping all the neighbors.

He graduated from Purdue University and received his bachelor’s degree in Education. During the summers in college, he drove for Mayflower Moving and traveled extensively throughout the eastern United States.

Shawn taught history at Armstrong Middle School in Plano, Texas and helped in athletics. He coached basketball and his team of students knew little or nothing about the game. He was so proud of them winning a game at the end of the season. He also taught history at Teague High School in Teague, Texas.

He worked for various furniture companies in the metroplex and enjoyed being a waiter at Austin Avenue seeing all the people he knew. Shawn will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother Lois Hughes, his brother Phillip Hughes, and his wife Christie, nephew Nolan and niece Eleanor all of Atlanta; his uncle Lee Alexander of New Orleans, and cousin Shelby McRee of Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his father John R Hughes.

There will be a mass at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2022, at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas with Rev Bruce Bradley officiating.
