Sharon Kaye Lloyd was born June 18, 1947 in Denver, Colorado to parents Tom Hogan Emmons and Marjorie Marie Crouch.
It is true that your legacy is not so much what you do or say, but how you make people feel. Nobody embodied this better than Sharon, our “Gaga.” Gaga was present for every single family gathering, from birthdays to graduations and everything in between, big, or small, no matter how far she had to travel. She was the main fixture of our family, and even on her worst days, Gaga was there . She was a source of light, comfort, and joy to her family (biological as well as chosen).
Gaga’s most distinctive traits were her sharp wit, her generous and tender heart, and her love for writing, animals, the color red, and God. She honored each of these traits every morning by sitting on the back porch in rain or shine with the dogs, wearing a red shirt, coat, or jacket, reading, or messaging her family, and writing down her thoughts on her phone while communing with God and nature. The rest of her day revolved around family; even weeks before she passed, Gaga packed a large cooler of food for her twenty-seven-year-old granddaughter before she drove home to New Mexico. She always made her love known and let the people around her know how much she cared.
Throughout her life, her sharp wit always managed to weave itself into the most unexpected moments. One Sunday as a newlywed, when her new mother-in-law asked if she wanted coffee, she replied “no thank you, it might keep me awake during church.” Years later, when her oldest daughter, Beth, reprimanded her for smoking and encouraged her to quit, she looked Beth square in the eye and replied, “I am not a quitter”. Her wit was paralleled by her stamina to do what was right in her heart, a quality best demonstrated when she gave the main speech during her eighth grade graduation ceremony while she had walking pneumonia. Her wit and stamina to be a light to those around her never failed to brighten the day of her loved ones.
Laughter and love were her greatest legacies. Her children, grandchildren, and niece can all attest that as the matriarch of the family, Gaga shared a special connection with each of her family members and never failed to show up for them. Her love knew no bounds, and along with loving and providing for her family, Gaga extended her generosity and compassion to family friends. She even became the “second Grandma” (and the only Gaga!) for several of her grandchildren’s’ friends. She loved unconditionally and was a safe space for anyone to come exactly as they are. She never condemned anyone for being true to themselves and loved fiercely until the very end. She will be dearly missed.
Sharon is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Boisseau-Coots and her husband Greg Coots and Melissa Hefty and her husband Brian; grandchildren Nicolas Lloyd, Jessica Boisseau-Hays and her husband Joseph, Jason Boisseau, Blake Coots and Reagan Hefty; mother Marjorie Emmons; brother Tom Emmons; niece Birdalone Adams and her husband Kevin and many other loving nieces, nephews and friends.
