Sharon Laraine Day

April 23, 1945 — August 14, 2017

Sharon Kukes Day was born in Hardin, Montana on April 23, 1945 to John and Esther Kukes. She graduated from Hardin High School in 1962.  In her younger years she worked on her father’s farm where he was a sugar beet farmer and raised cattle.

On August 17, 1974, Sharon married Bill Day from Billings, Montana and they, along with her three children, moved to Dallas, Texas.  Sharon eventually became a real estate agent and then moved into the corporate relocation industry until she retired in 2008.

After Sharon retired she found a love in oil painting and began taking classes.  Her work showed that she had a hidden talent and her love for painting grew through the years.  Sharon was a true cat lover and always had at least two cats by her side.  She was an advocate for adopting from shelters and always adopted at least two siblings at a time.  Sharon was passionate about donations to the St. Jude’s organization. Her heart went out to all of the kids that were stricken with cancer.  Every year for her birthday and Christmas her wish instead of getting gifts, was to request that donations be made.  Another one of her greatest passions was traveling and she was able to see many parts of the world through her retirement years with Bill.  They truly shared a love for experiencing new countries and cultures.

Sharon was very involved in Altrusa, which is an organization of professional women dedicated to the betterment of the community and she was a member from 2004 through 2006.  She participated in many of the clubs activities, always adding a touch of creativity.  She hosted service projects in her home including packing, wrapping and decorating Thanksgiving boxes for Meals on Wheels participants.  She was an active participant in many projects including reading encouragement at Forman Elementary School, regular bingo nights for residents at the Plano Community Home and crafts at the annual Lantern Light Festival at Heritage Homestead.

Sharon was loved and admired by her friends and family.  She was a wonderful mother to her children and an amazing grandmother.  Sharon and Bill had a wonderful marriage full of love and respect and she will be greatly missed.  She is survived by her husband, Bill Day, her children Jeff Schaak (wife Michelle), Melanie Williams (husband Larry) and Cami Adam (husband Stephane), grandchildren Brandon and Natalie Vinson, Brandi and Joey Blaylock, Chandler Schaak, Victoria Schaak and Bella Adam.  Sharon also had four great grandchildren: Rayce, Hannah and Roman Vinson and Jaxon Blaylock.

A memorial service to celebrate Sharon’s life will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Custer Road United Methodist Church, 6601 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023 with Rev. Sharon O’Connor, officiating.  If desired, contributions may be made in Sharon’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/memorial , 800-873-6983.
