Sandy Peavey, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many passed away after a 12 year battle with breast cancer on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
Sandra Lou Earthman was born on January 27, 1942 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Susie and Louis Earthman, their only child. After WWII, the family moved to Amarillo, Texas where Sandy began school and started making friends that lasted her whole life. She and her friends would take vacations together around the country and they remain friends today.
It was with those friends that Sandy began attending the Methodist Church. After she graduated from Amarillo High School, she spent a few weeks at TCU then returned to Amarillo to marry Tom Hawthorne. Together they started a business and raised two children Terry and Victoria. In addition to being a great mother and homemaker, she kept the books for the family business. She loved to travel and started traveling with her mother. After the hardship of losing both her parents and the family home to fire in 1989, Sandy’s first husband, Tom, of 32 years passed away in 1993.
She met Jim Peavey and married him in 1994. Sandy sold the family business and moved to Plano in 1998 and began attending Custer Road United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Ruth Circle as well as other ministries. She loved to enhance the beauty of her yard. Sandy loved flowers. Sandy was always doing something. During the day she might be out shopping, playing cards, or having lunch. Sometimes she did all those things in the same day! She was a member of several card playing groups. If you got up early enough, you might find her visiting with friends in the neighborhood pool.
Sandy cherished her time with her many friends and family. She loved to learn new games and play all the old ones. When her granddaughter Megan started attending TCU, she became a fan of their football team. She loved the Dallas Cowboys, too.
Sandra was preceded in death by her mother, father, first husband, and grandsons Benjamin Walker and Klein Hawthorne. Sandy is survived by her husband Jim Peavey of 28 years, son Terry Hawthorne, and wife Sissie and granddaughter Megan; daughter Victoria Hawthorne and spouse Paul Normandin and granddaughter Cindy James Peavey Jr. and wife Carey; granddaughters Kate and Peyton Peavey Jennifer Peavey and Grandson Chris and wife Jasmine grandsons Aaron & Charles Peavey.
