Samuel Leonard Setterlund

March 5, 1947 — August 29, 2020

Samuel Leonard Setterlund was born to Robert and Annadele Setterlund on March 15, 1947 and he went to his heavenly reward on August 29, 2020. Sam grew up in Artesia, New Mexico, attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico and graduated with honors – Best Cadet, Dean’s List. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, graduated Cum Laude from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and received his ROTC Commission to 2 nd Lieutenant. Sam served in the United States Army, attached to the Adjutant General’s office and it was there he received his Commission to 1 st Lieutenant. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a Master of Arts in English Literature and earned his Ph. D in Humanities from The University of Texas at Dallas. His professional teaching assignments included The University of Texas at Dallas, Southern Methodist University and Collin College.

Sam was a formidable opponent in racquet ball and tennis and greatly enjoyed driving fast cars, yet he was humble, gentle and a kind man who loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a good man with quiet strength and a steady presence. Thank you, Lord for giving Sam a glorified body free from pain and suffering.

Sam is survived by his loving and devoted wife Eileen. He will be buried at The Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, you may honor Sam with a donation to Cornerstone Family Church, 1784 Firman Avenue, Richardson, Texas 75081, where he was a member and Deacon.
