Rosehelen (Nan) Cowen lived a long life, filled with love and laughter. Anyone who came in contact with her was able to experience her big heart and sassy attitude. She was born on June 13, 1932, in Bermuda, where her father was the lighthouse keeper. She was the only daughter and had three brothers.
Rosehelen enjoyed being a banker in her later teens. She married a military man and came to America to become a citizen; and moved to Texas. She had two children, Greg, and Kathy, and continued her banking career.
She moved back to Bermuda, after her children grown, and lived with Kathy. She helped Kathy with her three kids, Ronald, James, and Robert, and became an “adopted” grandma to many swimmers. In 2001, She moved back to Texas with grandsons, Ron, and Robert, and moved in with Greg and his family.
Her daughter, Kathy passed away in 2015, so she then moved in with Robert and his family. She cared for her great grands as much or more than she was cared for; and became best friends with her great granddaughter, Keeley.
Rosehelen lived to be 89 years old and enjoyed living her life caring for others especially blood-related and “adopted” grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was able to keep a super close relationship with her brother, Ted, up until the day she passed.
She loved being at the beach, gardening, and lighthouses; she could talk about any of them for hours! On October 10, 2021, she passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones and is now walking on heaven’s shores. Rosehelen was a special lady that will be greatly missed.

The family requests that you please wear something yellow to the visitation and the graveside service to celebrate Nan, as it was her favorite color. (It can be a ribbon, socks, nail polish, etc.)
In lieu of flowers, plant something in honor of her. Take a picture with the town, city, or country and who it is from somewhere in the pictures then send it to the family at [email protected] so we can make an album to have sweet memories of all the lives she impacted.
