Robert (Bob) Charles Burk

November 15, 1953 — January 19, 2018

Robert (Bob) Charles Burk was born in Jacksonville, Florida on November 15, 1953, to parents Ray Edgar and Elizabeth (Mc Closkey) Burk. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in Plano on January 19, 2018.

Bob married his college sweetheart, Jennifer (Davis) Burk on May 16, 1981. He was a faithful, supportive husband and devoted father to Brian and Sara, who he loved very much.

Bob lived in Seabrook, Texas during his elementary school years where he cultivated a love of the ocean, sailing and fishing. He graduated from Denton High School in 1972 where he was an all-district football player. He graduated from the University of North Texas in 1976 with a degree in Business Administration. While in college, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, an affiliation he proudly shared with his son.

Bob had a successful career in banking, starting at Bank of America and moving to Comerica Bank and then Regions Bank where he was a Private Banker and retired in 2012. Prior to that, he owned a paving company, North Texas Asphalt, and worked as a manager for two home service companies.

Bob was a member of Christ Church Anglican where he helped teach children’s Sunday school, participated in the Wheelchair Ministry and helped lead several mission trips to Juarez and to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He was a member of the same church small group for 17 years where he formed a strong bond with other like-minded Christians who had children in the same age range. Bob also volunteered for several years with Boy Scout Troop 380.

Bob was very close to his siblings and their children. He enjoyed birthday and holiday celebrations throughout the years and they spent many vacations together. Bob was attentive and supportive of his late mother, Bette, making regular weekly visits during her last years and handling her business affairs.

Bob was a kind and gentle soul who never met a stranger, a big “teddy bear”, who everyone loved. He had a quick and quirky wit and loved to tell stories. Bob will be at Sara’s wedding on August 11, 2018, in spirit and will be sorely missed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jennifer, of 36 years; their children, Brian Burk of Dallas, Texas, Sara Burk and her fiancé Aaron Hantsche of Geneva, Switzerland; his siblings, Barbara Angel of Denton, Texas, Susan Seale and husband Tommy Seale of West Tawakoni, Texas; Steven Burk and wife Stacy Burk of Sammamish, Washington and Sally Smith and husband, Stephen Smith of Royse City, Texas; nieces and nephews, Andrea Van Dell of San Francisco, California, Erin Burk of San Francisco, California, Kellie Garrett and husband Chris Garrett of Cave Springs, Arkansas, Nathan Smith of New York, New York, Preston Burk of Sammamish, Washington, and Zachary Smith of San Marcos, Texas; grand-nephew Carter Garrett of Cave Springs, Arkansas; brother-in-law John Davis and wife Cindy Davis and their daughter Catie Davis of Maben, Mississippi.

A memorial service with Holy Communion is scheduled for Monday, January 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Christ Church Anglican, 4550 Legacy, Drive, Plano, Texas. A reception will follow the service at the church reception center. Immediate family will gather afterwards for the burial of ashes at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

Bob loved animals and was inseparable from his dachshund, Reese, until her death in 2017. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the SPCA of Texas at www.spca.org/memorialgiving
