Richard Earl White

October 29, 1926 — June 1, 2018

Richard Earl White was born October 29, 1926 in Clarion County, Pennsylvania to parents Earl and Florence (Shingledecker) White.  Richard was the oldest of five children and grew up on a farm in Clarion County, Pennsylvania.

During his childhood, he fostered a love of playing the guitar, which he retained up until his death. Directly after his senior year of high school, Richard joined the Army Air Corps, during the last few months of the Second World War. The GI Bill enabled him to attend business school at Franklin Commercial College, which landed him a position in the accounting department at Joy Manufacturing Company in Franklin, Pennsylvania. When he transferred buildings within the company, he met his future wife JoAnne Maxwell. Their courtship lasted seven years, and most of their dates consisted of attending church on Wednesday evenings, Sunday mornings, and Sunday evenings. JoAnne’s strong faith furthered Richard’s own, a commitment that remained integral to his character throughout the entirety of his life. They were finally married on June 22, 1957.

During their first few years of marriage, the newlyweds worked to build their first house together, from the ground up. Five years later, the couple had their first and only son, Robert White, whom Richard enjoyed sharing his love of mechanics with. During his son’s childhood, Richard worked as a highway inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Richard worked for Slesnick Bros Pennzoil Distributor in Franklin, Pennsylvania, for about 15 years until his retirement. After Robert’s marriage to Christine Milford, and the birth of his second grandchild, he moved to Texas with his wife into order to remain involved in both his children’s and grandchildren’s lives.

Richard is survived by his son, Robert White, his daughter-in-law, Christine White, his two grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew White, and his siblings, Dan White and Patty Miller.Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne.

A visitation will be held Thursday June 7, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2120 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas. Richard will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, Pennsylvania.
