Richard (Rick) Carr

November 29, 1948 — March 2, 2021

Richard (Rick) Darryl Carr was born November 29, 1948 in Perry County, Kentucky to parents Jack and Mollie (Cantrell) Carr.

He was raised with strong Christian values by his amazing parents, John and Micki, who brought their beautiful family to sunny California where they flourished. Being the eldest child of seven, he was always looked up to and admired by his younger brothers and sisters. He helped mold them into the intelligent, heartfelt followers of Christ that they are today. Rick’s huge heart was accompanied by his handsome features and genial sense of humor. That being said, he was known as a “strong silent type,” with a stoic nature that commanded respect and honor. Always looking out for those he cared about, he made sure they understood their potential and their powerful placement in the Body of Christ.

This amazing man of God knew it was his duty to serve the country that he loved so much. Therefore, he served in the Vietnam War when he was a young man. The trials and loss that he experienced there helped forge him into the strong and wise man that he was known as. The pain he felt there unfortunately caused him to take some bumpy roads in order to deal with it, but like always, he emerged from that pain victoriously and stronger than ever with his will… and with his heart. After the war, he returned to California where he made a living as a projectionist – providing joy and entertainment to the good people of Los Angeles.

Rick was an amazing husband to his beautiful and kind wife, Kay. They fell in love and shared their deep commitment to the Lord. He always showered her with affection and bragged about how lucky he was to have found such a gorgeous woman to be his bride. Their love was a beacon of light to all those near it. They continued their adventure by moving to Missouri, and then again to Texas where he spent the rest of his life working in the IT industry and raising his children.

This extraordinary man went on to become an extraordinary father. The principles he instilled in his five children helped mold them into powerful and empathetic warriors of God. He could be stern at times, when it was needed, but that was always out of love and looking out for their bright futures. He did anything he could for his children; making sure they were always provided for and given opportunities to excel in life. Jeremy, Daniel, Michael, Jennifer and Heather were lucky to have this man as their father.

He was also a terrific grandfather, and loved his grandsons and granddaughters more than life itself. He always wanted to spoil them and make them giggle; using adorable nicknames that always brought big smiles to everyone’s faces. His children and grandchildren will never forget the impact he had on their lives. And he was proud of them all.

Although Rick’s passing brings us terrible pain and grief, he would want us all to remember the love he had for us. He would tell us how happy he is now, in Heaven with his parents and lost friends, and most importantly with the Lord Jesus Christ that he devoted his life to. He would hug us tightly until we felt better, soothing our fear with his soft voice and strong hands. He would remind us that he is there for us, and to trust in God’s plan and let it continue to strengthen us.

Let everyone know that Richard Darryl Carr was an amazing man. Celebrate his life and remember the principles he carried, so they may carry us on in wisdom and love.

We love and miss you, Rick. We will never forget you.
