Richard Ray was born in Eldon, Missouri in 1939, to parents Arnim and Bonnie (Hoskins) Ray. He graduated from Lindbergh High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and received his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University.
He married Deanna in March of 1962. They moved to Dallas, Texas from St. Louis in 1968, on what was to be a one-year commitment and never left. He and Deanna raised their family of three children in Richardson, Texas, a town they have called home for over 50 years.
Richard had a business career in operations management rising through the ranks of junior and middle management until ultimately retiring as a Vice President at Vistawall Architectural Products in Terrell, Texas.
Richard led a Sunday School class at The Heights Church in Richardson for over 30 years. Since retiring, he led the volunteer group at Richardson Methodist Hospital.
Richard was a fiercely committed father and grandfather who had a knack for making each of his kids and grandkids feel like they were his favorite. He was an ever-present steady hand who led his family with humility, grace, and humor.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Deanna Ray; children Andy Ray and wife Ellen, Matt Ray and wife Becky, Becky Ray Guthrie and husband Joe; grandchildren Grant Ray and wife Kirsten, Zoe Halfmann and husband Matt, Landry Ray, Halley Ray, Brady Ray, Justin Esgar, Jake Esgar, Luke Guthrie; great grandchildren Layla, Colton, Harper and Hattie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a service to celebrate Richard’s life at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2025, at The Heights Church, Richardson, Texas.
