With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Richard (Dick) Edward Haley, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 30, 2025. He was born February 23, 1933, to James and Josephine Haley, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he grew up with two sisters, Loretta (Retta) and Josphine (Jo), and two brothers, James (Jim) and Robert (Rob), of whom preceded him in death, along with his beloved son, Mark Haley.
He met the love of his life, Peggy, and they were married on September 7, 1957, in Cohasset, Massachusetts. They just celebrated their 68th anniversary, a true testament to their lifelong devotion to each other. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a degree in Electrical Engineering, while working full-time at EG&G and starting a family. In January 1969, he began his career with Texas Instruments, moving his young family to Richardson, Texas, where he had a very successful career.
A devoted Catholic, Dick spent many wonderful years in Texas making countless friends through both St. Mark’s and St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Plano. When not at church or with his family, he was most likely to be found on the golf course, playing in his 90’s. In 1996, Dick and Peggy moved to Florida to return to the Atlantic Ocean they loved so much, spending 16 years there and creating cherished friendships in their Hacienda community.
In 2012, Dick and Peggy returned to Richardson, Texas to be closer to their family. They embraced their new retirement community and, true to form, quickly built many more lasting friendships.
Above all his professional achievements and friendships, Dick will be remembered most as a devoted husband and a loving, selfless father. He poured his heart into raising his five children with patience, encouragement, and quiet strength, always putting their needs above his own. His greatest joy came from being present in their lives, whether offering wise guidance, celebrating milestones, or simply sharing everyday moments. Just as he was a devoted father, Dick was a playful, proud, and endlessly supportive grandfather, delighting in every accomplishment and cherishing time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Dick leaves behind his wife, Peggy; their son, Richard (Leeann); daughters, Laura (Joe), Joanne (Gary), and Susan (David); five grandchildren, Katie, Emily, Caroline, Cole, and Kyle, along with one great-grandson, Matthew, as well as many nieces and nephews he loved dearly. His legacy of selfless love, strong faith, and family devotion will live on in all who knew him.
A mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church; with a rosary preceding at 10:30 a.m.
Dick will be laid to rest in the columbarium after the mass.
