Richard Griffith

June 27, 1928 — May 11, 2023

Richard Dawes Griffith passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023, at the age of 94.  He was born June 27, 1928, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Howard and Cornelia Griffith. He attended West Point and the University of Scranton, then joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country as a Captain during the Korean War.

Dick married the love of his life, Kay McDonnell, in 1960 and began a life as a devoted husband and father.  The family moved from Michigan to Richardson, Texas in 1970, where he began a long successful career in the advertising industry, before retiring in 2000.

Dick was best known for his quick wit, his ability to tell a good story and he consistently had a joke on hand to make you laugh.  You could always count on him to impress with his knowledge of sports, geography and history trivia.  He spent most of his free time on the golf course. First at Preston Trail then Gentle Creek Golf Club. He also loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars. But above all else, he loved his country and was proud to be a Marine.  He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Dick is survived by his wife, Kay; children Pete Griffith and wife Diana, Lauren Rooney and husband Steve, Roger Griffith, Kristen Barnes and husband John, Molly Blackney and husband David, sister Suzanne Knorr of Cumming, Georgia, 11 Grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, as well as many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his sister Sally Matthews and grandson Matthew Rooney.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Allen Family Funeral Options with Pastor Tommy Brumett officiating.

He will be laid to rest with military honors at the DFW National Military Cemetery.
