Richard "Dickie" Downey, Sr.

Richard “Dickie” Downey, Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born on October 26, 1942, Dickie dedicated his life to service, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1960 and serving honorably until his retirement in 1987. His commitment to his country continued as a civilian employee until 2004.

On May 26, 1965, he married the love of his life, Fusako “Sam” Downey, and together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dickie loved playing basketball, softball, ping pong, tennis, and bowling. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and took great joy in watching his grandchildren compete in sports, especially softball. His love for his family extended to their four-legged members as well—he had a special bond with his granddaughter’s dog, Lugo, whom he delighted in sneaking treats.

Dickie’s kindness, devotion, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Edith Downey; his son, Donald Downey; his daughter, Kathy Guerrero; and his sister, Sally Downey.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Fusako “Sam” Downey; his children, Richard Downey Jr. and his wife Jamie, Debby Downey, and Cindy Downey; and his granddaughters, Kathleen Aldana, Caryssa Downey, Monica Downey, Kayla Guerrero, and Jaiden Downey.

Dickie is also survived by his siblings: Donald Downey and his wife Shirley, Susie Pacheco, Jim Downey and his wife Melissa, Betsy Franks, Mary Downey, Nancy Ramsey, Peggy Downey, and Ginny York.

We will honor his life on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Allen Family Funeral Options. The viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m.

Dickie will be laid to rest with military honors at 1:00 p.m. at Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
