Richard "Dick" Townsend

Richard “Dick” Graham Townsend passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 2, 2022, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 93, just a few hours shy of his 94th birthday. Dick was born on October 3, 1928, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Nat and Margaret Townsend.

Dick will be remembered by his family and friends for his many passions throughout his life, as well as for being extremely humble, reliable and hard working.

He loved dogs especially his Bouvier’s.

Dick had a natural talent for numbers, which was probably why he loved to play cards, especially poker. He enjoyed several trips to Las Vegas with his son Rich and good friend Eric, where they made sure to stop by the buffets and were entertained with people-watching.

Dick was known for keeping up with the national sporting events. He was a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan and brought the terrible towel to all the family game-watching events. When the Steelers weren’t playing, Dick loved watching and discussing professional golf and he always had his golf clubs on standby.

Dick was a lover of food and cooking. He never passed up a Gin & Tonic or a Shiner Bock to pair along with Sunday dinners with the family.  He always appreciated home cooked meals prepared by Cindy or Rich and often requested our special occasion Kahlua cake, as Dick was known for having a sweet tooth. When you received a gift from Dick, you always knew it would be some sort of chocolate candy or cookie.

We thank him for his service with the US Army and continued patriotism as well as his insight and guidance throughout the years.  He was loved and will be missed.

Dick is survived by his four children Rich Townsend, Cindy Tarantino, Trevor Townsend, Patrick Townsend; stepdaughters Anda Ray and Cathy Grando; and his two granddaughters, Renee Townend and Rachel Smith Townsend.

Dick will be laid to rest at Dallas/Ft Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
