Richard “Dick” Goebel

Devotion to wife and family and leadership in college, banking career, state and national loan and credit associations and church volunteer organization marking Richard “Dick” Goebel’s life. He went home to be with Jesus July 21, 2026, 15 days after his 94th birthday, with his wife, Nancy and family by his side. His wife later said, “I have treasured memories of our blessed marriage. With our deep bond of love for 71 years and the Lord as our guide, we truly enjoyed God’s gift of our marriage and the family we created.”

In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his three children; Dr. Gregg Goebel (Marilyn), Marc Goebel (Brenda) and Lynne Goebel Halydier; six grandchildren Rev. Paul Goebel (Jenni), Dr. Melanie Goebel (Fraser Pan, Dawn Goebel Graziano (Vince), Taylor Goebel (Alexandra), Andrew and Alex Halydier as well as eight great grandchildren Ann Elise, Margaret and Georgia Goebel, Nathan Pan, Jacob and Grace Graziano and Anastasia and Michael Goebel. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Gertrude Goebel and his brother Gerald Gordon Goebel.

Names Richard James Goebel, Dick was born July 6, 1932, in Grosse Point Farms, Michigan. His leadership was first manifested at Michigan State University where he was one of thirteen men selected for Excalibur, the highest men’s honorary fraternity at the university, based on character, leadership and service to the school. After graduating with honors from MSU, he completed hi Master’s Degree in finance at Southern Methodist University. He also service country as a pilot in the United States Air Force. In his banking career, he attained the level of Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo Bank, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors at First City Bank, Dallas. HE was president of the Texas/Oklahoma Chapter of Robert Morriss Associates (RMA), a national association of credit and loan officers as well as a member of the national board of RMA.

When Dick looked back on his life, he always said faith and family were the most important aspects of his life. He especially enjoyed the many camping trips throughout the USA with the family when the children were young. After retirement, he really treasured the summers he and Nancy spent in Northern Michigan enjoying the musical events and the religious and educational opportunities at the Chautauqua near Harbor Springs and reliving their early days at Michigan State where they met and nurtured their love. HE also enjoyed their homes and neighborhoods in Lake Highlands, Southlake and McKinney, Texas and in Tanoan in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he walked the neighborhoods and became friends with many neighbors.

Dick and Nancy became members of Christ Church Plano and were confirmed in the Anglican faith in 2010. In previous years they were active members of the Lutheran Church where they were baptized and led senior activities in later years. Dick also was president of a Lutheran congregation and volunteers as a financial advisor for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He was confirmed into the Lutheran Church, May 20, 1945. His confirmation Bible verse was John 11:25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Richard “Dick” Goebel lived his life with this verse in mind.

There will be a Resurrection Service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, 2026, at Christ Church Plano.

There will be a reception and Remembrance to follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.
