Raymond John Smith

April 6, 1932 — June 7, 2018

Raymond J Smith was born April 6, 1932 in Brownsboro, Texas to parents Charles Luke and Ama (Cox) Smith.

Ray was a loving, caring and often stubborn husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed his time with them; but if you asked him he would say his two loves were fishing and the Texas Longhorn football team.

Fishing was his true passion whether, whether it was in his boat or just wade fishing on the beach. He never passed on an opportunity to “wet a hook” as he would say.

On Saturday’s during the months of August to January you would find him in front of the TV watching his beloved Longhorns try to put together another winning season. Later in life he found a joy in woodworking and loved making serving trays, lamps and even a rocking chair glider to pass on to his loved ones.

He loved spending time with family and friends and will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Ray is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Smith, children; Stacey Smith, Jennifer Van Vuren and her husband Scott, Marc Riggs, James Smith and his wife Sylvia, grandchildren; Steven, Kassie and Katie Dotson, Taylor Van Vuren, Ryan Riggs and Patrick Smith and five great grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service to honor and celebrate Ray’s life Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas. Ray will be laid to rest at Plano Mutual Cemetery, 18th & Jupiter, Plano, Texas 75074; with Pastor Rusty Hudson, officiating.

If desired, contributions may be made in Ray’s name to the American Cancer Society, P O Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123, www.cancer.org or 800-227-2345.
